The Setup

Jobsprk, an HR startup, began because the founders knew there had to be a better way to create resumes and tailor them for job applications. They had already started using AI to accelerate the resume creation process. As they scaled operations, though, they began looking for a better alternative to the series of text prompts they had been using.

They wanted to develop a custom AI agent to help users create resumes instantly. The resumes had to be well-written, attractive, and ATS-friendly. The client reached out to Sketch Development because of Sketch's expertise with AI. In only three sprints — about a month and a half total — a single Sketch developer helped Jobsprk launch one of the best AI resume creators on the market.

The Challenge

To build a single, cohesive, user-friendly AI agent, the custom AI developer from Sketch had to account for all of the ways information could flow into and out of the software.

Users might be at different points in the resume creation process. If the user is updating an existing resume, not creating one from scratch, Jobsprk must be able to parse out the existing information, rework it, then put it back into a structured format.

Further, job seekers have different preferences when it comes to choosing a resume format and file type. The custom code must put the AI-generated text into a document with the desired format, making it readable for humans and ATS solutions alike.

The Solution

The finished product offers a user three choices:

  1. Answer some questions for the AI agent, then have the agent create a new resume from scratch.
  2. Upload a resume (PDF, new Word formats, or old Word doc formats) and have the AI agent improve it.
  3. Upload a resume, have the AI agent parse out the information, add additional details, then instantly receive an updated resume.

From there, the user can choose from different styles and layouts. The result is a grammatically correct resume that reads well for humans and is also fine-tuned for ATS solutions. The user can download the finished resume as a Word document, which means they can continue to tweak it as desired throughout their search.
